People, animals, and every living thing need water to grow. People use water to brush their teeth, have a shower, and wash their hands, so they don’t give themselves and others germs. Water can be used to clean, drink, play, and to cook a very healthy meal. Water isn’t a want, it’s a need!
There is water in tons of places, like streams, lakes, oceans, and pools. Long Lake at Regina Beach is a very good lake to go to. People can go swimming in water, and have water fights on a hot summer day. There are lots of unique kinds of water. There is tap water, toilet water, rain water, fresh water, drinking water, dirty water, clean water, holy water, and many more.
Do you know what a watershed is? A watershed is an area of land that collects water into an outlet. The outlet in Hawaii would be the ocean. It is also an area of land where all of the water that is underneath the watershed goes into the closest outlet (lake, stream, ocean). Some of the water is absorbed by plants, and the rest is absorbed underground.
You can buy water in a plastic bottle, or drink it from a fountain. You can add different kinds of juice mixes to water to make juice. We breathe in air, but did you know that fish breathe in water? Fish don’t have lungs, so how can they breathe? Whales and dolphins have lungs to store air from the surface. The oxygen surrounding the fish contains a small percentage of dissolved oxygen. At the surface, there is about 5 milliliters of air per liter of water. That is a lot less than the 210 milliliters of air we breathe. That’s how important water is to living creatures and animals. Without water we would die!
